Lunch

We ate lunch in town before going back to the hotel after snorkeling. Anna loves the seafood here. She tried clams for first time. Jack had a cuban sandwich, Elizabeth had shrimp street tacos, I had the chicken tacos, Kate ate chicken fingers and fries and John had a chicken salad sandwich and fries.

Snorkeling

We took a boat to the reef on the gulf side to snorkel. We switched days because we were supposed to go yesterday but it was so windy, they couldn't get to the reef. The boat ride was about 45 minutes to the reef. Then the kids all snorkeled for about 45 minutes. They saw a blowfish, the reef, fish, a sting ray and sand dollars. One of the men on the boat got stung by a man of war and was in a lot of pain. It was enough not to want to get in, so John and I did not!

Key Lime Bike Tour

We did a 6 mile bike tour of the island today and ended with key lime pie! The history of the island was really fun to learn about including the wreckers (when boats wrecked into the reef the wreckers came to take the goods), the cigar industry, and the military. We also learned about the Truman Annex and the saw the Little White House where President Truman worked part of his presidency. We saw Mile Marker 0, the beginning of Highway 1 and the Southernmost point (which isn't really the correct southernmost point). We learned the sand is brought in each year that the beaches would be stone because of the reefs!
