World Experience Day--Switzerland

The school had parent volunteers put on World Experience Day. Each year the school picks a country to "visit" and learn about. This year it was all about Switzerland. The entire day was devoted to learning about this country. There was a cafe, red cross tent (the Red Cross was started in Switzerland), plays put on by the older grades, Matterhorn, sledding, milking cows and making cheese, Christmas market, Bo Bo's circus, Discovery center, the Alphorn and a closing ceremonies with a yodeling contest! At the beginning of each World Experience Day, there is an opening ceremonies with children selected to represent their heritage, by carrying in that country's flag to the song, It's a Small World. This year, the Scudder kids were selected to carry the Holland flag. The kids could dress in appropriate  costumes/clothes of their country if they wanted. It was fun to watch them walk in dressed like little Dutch children. There were 86 countries represented in the opening ceremony. It was very cute.

This man played the Alphorn before the flag ceremony.

Hand painted Swiss Alps by one of our school's moms. The evergreens were borrowed from the church.
This really moved! The ski lift in the alps

After the ceremony, he played a traditional Swiss song on the alphorn that is normally played in the fall when all the cows come down the mountains where they escaped the summer heat.

I worked in the Cafe, so I grabbed a picture of Jack while his class came through my station.
