Muskogee Golf--Kids Golf

The kids played in the first Tulsa Kids Golf tournament of the season and it was a beautiful day for how early in March it is! The scores were all high--you could tell most kids have not played a lot over the winter. It was really windy and the grass was hard and dry and the greens were super fast! Jack finished 8th/15...he has a lot of work to do before next August. The girls played 18 holes. They were supposed to have one more season playing 10/11 year old 9 hole golf, but they changed it this spring so they are playing 11/12 year olds and 18 holes. The yardage also moved back so they are playing longer holes. The play was really slow and we had to wait 30 minutes to play hole #3. It took them 3 hours to finish 9 and so they ran out of daylight on hole 17. They were allowed to finish if they wanted to and Anna and Elizabeth did, but Kate did not finish hole 18. They scored the girls from the first 9 holes only. Elizabeth was 2nd with a 48, Kate was 4th with a 51 and Anna was 6th (out of 6) with a 62. She had a rough day. She hit it in the sand on the first hole and because of COVID, the girls do not have a ton of experience playing out the sand. So she got stuck in the sand and made a 10 on that hole. She followed up that hole hitting it in the sand on #2 (only took two tries to get it out) and #3. Then no sand on #4 because there was not sand, but back in the sand on #5. We were laughing about it at this point. She hit it over the sand, missed the green, and on her next shot, it went back into the sand! She also had one ball in the pond, one in front of a large tree that she had to take relief and one out of bounds. On the back 9, she was also in the sand a few more times. It was a great learning experience for her and she knows how to hit it out of the sand! Elizabeth had a pretty even day, was in the sand one time but got out and Kate played with John. She also had to hit out of the sand for the first time. Elizabeth finished with a 98, Kate had 98 through 17 and Anna had 119. The last two holes were really hard to play because of the dark, but it is a starting point for them.
