NY Marathon

John and I left early Friday morning for New York. Mimi and Aunt Mary came to the house to watch the kids. We diverted to Cleveland because of the fog in NYC and we had to sit in the airport for a few hours before getting cleared to land in NYC. Once we got there, we checked into our hotel and went to the Expo to pick up our packets. I walked with Beth and Timmy. We met up with Matt and John and got some pizza on the way home. Saturday morning I did a shake out 4 mile run with Ali and Beth in Central Park. It was pretty neat to see the finish line! We met up with Michael and had breakfast, walked through NYU and then took an uber to see the 9-11 memorials. We met up with the rest of the crew from NWA (Brittney and Grant Skelton, Ali and Mike Rush, Beth, Timmy, and Matt Lunde, Trey and Hannah Carter, and Adam and Whittney Fortin) for dinner at Carmines. Then we headed back to our hotels for the night. I woke up at 4 AM and met Ali and Beth in the lobby to walk to the library to catch the shuttle to the start line on Station Island. We had to be there so early...we sat for two hours, then went to our corrals for another hour. We started the race at 9:10 AM. The weather was hot--unseasonably warm and very humid. I did not have a good race, actually one of my worst! However, I was glad to finish. I had to walk a fair bit of it. There were people everywhere--and we ran through the five boroughs: Starting in Staten Island, then Brooklyn, Queens, Manhattan, Bronx and ending up in Central Park. It was a tough day for everyone. My official time was 4:53:53.

After the race, we walked back to our hotel. We went to mass at St. Patricks Cathedral (it was in Spanish!), then we had dinner. We met up with some of the other runners for a few drinks later that night. John and I flew home Monday morning!
