Carter Nov. 22, 2001--January 14, 2016

This dog has been our loyal companion for the last 14 years. We got him from a breader in Van Leer, TN on April 7, 2002. He has been with us through nine moves in seven different states. He was there with us years before we had babies of our own, and there when we brought all our babies home from the hospital. He has always loved food, walks (when he was younger), chasing squirrels and chewing up chew toys to find the squeakers inside them. Many mornings we would wake up to a lot of white fluff from the inside of his toys on our bedroom floor. We have called him Carter Lynn, Lynn-boy, Lynnie and Brown Boy. He has the sweetest disposition and never harmed a soul. He loves all people.

He has stomach cancer and has had a lot of trouble eating and absorbing food. He has lost quite a bit of weight, muscle, and hair in the last few months. The vet has told us it is time, but I think there will never be a right time to say good-bye. He will be missed dearly by all of us.

"Perhaps they are not starts, but rather opening in heaven where the love of our lost ones pours through and shines down upon us to let us know they are happy."

He loves to sit on the tops of couches

When I was pregnant with Jack.
In Boston, he had pododermatitis. We called it his chicken leg while we had to have it wrapped

 He is a loyal boy

With his cousin, Sam

Jack was very upset to learn about Carter after school. He and Carter were good buddies.
This picture is from Thanksgiving 2015
A few days before--it's easy to see his tumor in these pictures

"Not the least hard thing to bear when they go from us, these quiet friends, is that they carry away with them so many years of our own lives."

John Galsworthy

Pawprints Left By You
You no longer greet me,
As I walk through the door.
You're not there to make me smile,
to make me laugh anymore.
Life seems quiet without you.
You were far more than a pet.
You were a family member, a friend
a loving soul I'll never forget.
It will take time to heal
For the silence to go away,
I still listen for you
And miss you every day.
You were such a great companion
Constant, loyal and true.
My heart will always wear
the pawprints left by you

Run like the wind Cartie. Chase those squirrels.
Sniff out those hamburgers and fries and eat all you want.
We will remember you always
