Wednesday: The Congressional Hearing and Heading Home

Well, it snowed. Not like they were predicting--12 inches, but it was a sloppy mess. The girls stayed back at the hotel with a babysitter while John, Jack and I went to the Senate building to hear Micheal go before the Congress. The government offices were closed because of the weather, but Michael still had his hearing. Because the building was closed, there was only one visitor entrance open and the line to get in and through security was around two sides of the building. So, we stood there for almost 30 minutes waiting to get inside while the snow piled up on our heads. No joke, by the time we got inside, my hair was clumped with so much snow it was completely wet. I had to go into the bathroom and stand under the hand dryer to dry it. John had about an inch of snow on top of his head, too! Unfortunately, Michael was flying into D.C. that morning from Chicago since he had a Lacrosse game Tuesday night and his flight was cancelled so he did not make it. Jake drove up from Virginia Beach where he is stationed and Sarah, Vicki and Cindy picked up Erin on the way to the hearing. Nicholas and Margaret were there too. Michael did really well and the hearing was short. After, we went to lunch at Pizzeria Uno at Union Station before heading in opposite directions. We headed back to the hotel to change and pick up our bags and car and then to the airport to catch our flight. Most of the flights were cancelled because of the weather, but for some reason, ours was not and we were able to make it out of there and back to Dallas just before midnight. Everyone else had to get flights the next day. Baltimore got more snow than D.C. and they were flying out of there.
