Gold Rush

Bentonville public school put on this race to as a fundraiser for the schools. The schools had a running club for about five weeks where the kids could stay after school and run around the track to "train" for this race.  The girls ran the fun run (about 3/4 mile) and John and Jack ran the 5k. We finished about 10:58. Elizabeth was tired at 0.3miles and wanted to hold my hand. The other two were fast and I had to tell them to slow down to wait for us a few times. They ran the whole thing. They were so excited to run a race like mom. They woke up this morning and wanted to put on their "running shirt" right away. After school, they had their clothes on and shoes and were ready to go. Their race started at 6 pm. The 5k started at 6:30. John and Jack finished at 35:15. Not too bad considering Jack's school in Rogers did not have a running club so he had no training. John said he ran the whole race. We have another race in two weeks and I am running with Jack this time. I told him we will beat his time!

It was a beautiful evening. Perfect night to run. Mid 60s. It was also First Friday in the Square, so after the race there were all kinds of things to do. We go a free scoop of ice cream at The Spark Cafe.  The kids had a great time!
