New Job

The end of an era...I signed a contract working at the kids' school 20 hours a week as the school nurse. I started today. I feel like I hit the jackpot. Part time. School hours. At the same school with my kids. Elementary children. I really like the principal. The office staff is great. One of my good friends took the secretary job this year, so I get to work alongside her. I love the kids. I've learned the parents and families over the years volunteering. They know my face and trust me with their kids. The kids smile in the hallways when they see me and put a smile on my face when I get to help them. My kids like to find any excuse to come see me during the day (will have to work on this, but at the same time, I love being there with them).

First day story: Two pre-k students collided on the playground. I saw both of them. One had a small mark on his eye which needed some ice. One had a little red mark on her cheek. Both were fine, but I call the parent whenever there is a collision that involves the head. Even if it is minor. The little girl's mom is a friend of mine. I told her I would call her mom and she proceeded to tell me, "I know how to spell my mom's name!" Great, I tell her and she starts to tell me. "M." (Her mom's name is Michelle and I am impressed this 4 year-old is going to spell her name!) "O-M" she says.

Yep, you are right.

How can you not smile with that story?

Trick-or-Treat

Trick-or-Treating with the Rushings, like we do every year. Lindsay and I passed out candy on our porch, John and Ken took the girls around the block. Jack and Tyler went with a group of neighborhood boys by themselves this year. We had Steph Curry, two tap dancers (70s chicks) and one ballerina.

The whole crew

The girls met up with Emme, too!

Cleaned out!

We cleaned it out! Finally!
What's left of the toys
This was full of toys all pushed up around the wall. We donated so much, threw away a time and put some stuff away in the shed for them to keep.

Carving Pumpkins

John helped the kids carve the pumpkins again this year. He told me he thinks its his "best year yet."
Good job.

Miss Schaeffer's Wedding

The girls' social studies first grade teacher got married today. She invited all the second grade students and her current first grade students to the wedding and to sing in the choir. After the ceremony, she had a little reception outside with cake. It was very sweet of her to include the students and something the girls will never forget, I'm sure. They sang "Beautiful Mother" after communion while the couple honored Mary.

Bank Accounts

We took the girls to the bank to day to set up bank accounts. They emptied their pig banks and marched into the bank all ready (and feeling very important!)

They have separate accounts and just under $500 each from their pig bank change!

Halloween Parties

Jack's teacher asked me to be the room mom this year. I have never volunteered to be a room mom. I have always helped with parties, but not the room mom role. But, he told me he wanted me and another mom (a good friend of mine) to be the parents, and I thought there must be a reason that he likes to pick his room moms. So, I agreed. I dropped off some witch hat cookies in the girls' room, but wasn't able to stay and help there. I worked a game station in Jack's classroom. I had them memorize objects on a tray for 60 seconds and then write down as many as they could. It was fun. After the party, Mr. Martin told me that was was the best party he has seen (I think he must say this to every room mom each year). It was very sweet to say. And, Jack loved me being in his classroom.

Baseball

Kate took these pictures of Jack's last fall development practice. He will start private hitting lessons this next week. He is also interested in playing catcher, so he will have some lessons on that too. In January, he will have pitching lessons before games start in March! (He will also play basketball this winter)
