Slay the 5K

Well, our Slay the 5K got rained out again this year...so disappointing that we have not been able to hold a race in two years. The thunderstorms started early afternoon and continued through the evening. We switched the location of the race from Lake Atalanta to our school so we could have shelter if a storm came through. Since it did start with lightening and thunder about 15 minutes before we were supposed to start the Fun Run, we moved it into the gym. We had already called the 5K off earlier in the day. There were still many children that showed up in the crazy weather and ran around the gym, got their medals and ate the hot dogs, cookies, bananas and snacks that we worked so hard to get donated. Many people had fun, however, I was disappointed that we couldn't not hold the actual race. We rescheduled the race for the fall and hope the weather cooperates for us this time.

This cell produced tornadoes later in the evening just east of us. It grazed us on the north side during our race time.

All this was the work of people on the committee asking for donations from different vendors, Wal-Mart and Sams.

Final teacher challenge. We had 470 people register for the race (over 300 Fun Run and the rest were 5K) and about 60% of the kids in school register. That is over 100 more than last year when we didn't even hold the race! Two classes and 100% participation rate and earned class parties--donuts and slushes.
