Square to Square

This is the second year I completed the square-to-square marathon. It's not really a race, just a group of (not so smart) people that get together every year and decide to run from Bentonville square to Fayetteville square. There are no rules...you can run any route you want. We mostly stay on the trail, but come off in Springdale to cut off a few miles. This year, because of all the rain, we had to run through a tunnel full of mud that was interesting and the small creek we cross to cut off a few miles was very high. We can usually step on rocks to get across, but they were under water. So, the group I was with decided to take off our shoes and wade across (did I mention this was mile 21...). Well, I dropped my shoe in the water and it started floating down the stream. I quickly had the option to jump in and get my other shoe and socks wet to retrieve my shoe or run with one shoe the rest of the way to Fayetteville. So, I jumped in...and ran with sloshing feet the 6 remaining miles.

The race does not have shoe chips or official times, but someone collects your time off your watch at the finish and you get your name on a back of a shirt in the order of finishers. This year my watch time was 4:37:00. Mileage was 26.59 miles. I finished 41/103 people. Considering how hilly the route is and all my stops, I was happy with the finish. There is also an unofficial photographer for this "race."
