Birthday Trip to the Zoo, Part 1

I guess we are are getting our money's worth at the zoo this summer. We took the girls there on their birthday along with Grandmom, Granddad, Mimi and the Frazier girls. Since we had so many extra hands, this trip to the zoo was extraordinary for the girls being that they were able to run free! And ride the ponies, train and boat! Anna and Elizabeth screamed on the pony ride--Elizabeth louder than Anna, but Kate was just fine. Jack also loved the pony ride. It was perfect weather. We picnicked for lunch and had watermelon cupcakes. All-in-all, I think the girls had a great day.

(I have quite a few pictures since my mom was the designated photographer there!)

THE PONY RIDES

Elizabeth screamed during the entire ride. We only made her go around on the pony one lap.

Kate did fine on the pony

Anna whined during her pony ride.

Jack loved it!

My Babies are TWO!

Seriously, I can't believe they are two. Two seems much more toddler-like than baby. But they are still my babies.

In the last year, the girls have gone from crawling, cruising, bottle-fed, bald babies to little walking, talking, RUNNING, jumping, spoon-and-fork-using little people. When I think about this last year, they have changed so much. I can put little pig-tails in their hair--well, except for Kate--but she can at least have a bow. They are wearing 12 month summer clothes, size 4 shoes, except Anna is size 4.5 shoe. They love dolls, pushing the strollers around, playing with Jack, emptying out all my kitchen towels--heck emptying out any of my kitchen cabinets, playing outside with chalk, ride-on toys, Cozy-Coupes, chasing each other, playing with phones, putting on every pair of shoes within their grasp, brushing their teeth and climbing, climbing climbing!

Kate is my slowest talker, but has picked up her vocabulary in the last few weeks. Her latest word, "of-vie" is the cutest little sound coming from her mouth. It sums up her too, she is most attached to her lovie and pacifier. She likes to stir the pot with her sisters and will do things to get attention--like take toys she doesn't really want from them...and then laugh at me. She will specifically will let us know when she is doing something she shouldn't, i.e. standing on the table. We call Kate the moocher, because she is not shy around strangers and will go to anyone, especially if they have food. She is the strongest, fastest and has more muscle than I ever did!

Elizabeth has the biggest vocabulary and will try to repeat everything you tell her too--sometimes it sounds great and other times not, but she gets an A+ for effort. Her effort in everything has shown through since the day she was born. She never let anything get in the way--we joked that no one told her she was a 33 week preemie weighing 3 lbs. when she was in the NICU. She thought she was a full-term baby. Always the smallest, she has always kept right up with her sisters in all her milestones. Elizabeth is my peacemaker. She doesn't fight back when the the other two take her toys. She is always looking out for her sisters, bringing them their lovies, sippie cups and throwing away their diapers. She is my pickiest and slowest eater. She is also my most sensitive baby--with everything, including, strangers, sounds, new places and even down to her skin. She always seems to have a diaper rash!

Anna is the boss. She deems all toys hers no matter who has them first. She is no stranger to take a toy from her sisters and then "yell" at them when they try to take it back. Her new word, "No, No" is not one we tried to teach her per-say, but she learned it anyway. We have seen her push some and bite on occasion. She is the queen of dirty looks! She has a vocabulary somewhere in the middle of the other two. Her newest word, "Pease" is my favorite. I make her say it at least two times before I give her what she wants just so I can hear her little voice. Anna loves baby dolls. Today, I saw here swinging one of them around in a circle, then hugging it--it was so cute.

Zoo Trip

I took the girls to the zoo today and it was a little sad without Jack--as he was in school. Anyway, it was a beautiful day and we enjoyed ourselves.

The alligator was floating in the water starring at us!

First Day of Kindergarten

Jack had his first day of kindergarten today! He was so excited to go "all day" and take his lunch. I got him up early so I could walk him in the first day and I wish I had a sitter for the girls...but they had to tag along with us--oh well. The Frazier girls were at the office running out to meet us when we got there. He loved to see them and his Aunt Sue Sue. We walked down to his classroom and he met his teacher, Mrs. Herrold. There are 21 students in his class, including a few from his preschool last year and his little friend, Jake. He was a little nervous when I was getting ready to leave, and asked when his Aunt Sue Sue would check on him. I think that made him feel better. I got a call from Susie around 11:00 and she said she just saw Jack in the lunch room, he was doing fine, she helped him open his yogurt and juice box. He told her that "my mom packed a lot of food, but I am going to save the pretzels for snack." I did pack a large lunch because I wasn't sure what he would eat and I didn't want him to be hungry.

When I picked him up from school he was smiling! He told me he liked it and his teacher was nice and he was excited to go back tomorrow. He had three recesses! He also told me he had to line up a lot! He ate most of his lunch and the rest of it he ate on the way to the pediatrician's office. He had to get a few shots today---DTaP, IPV, MMR and Varivax. I was hoping this would go smoothly, since his shot last December did not produce any tears, but the nurse made him lie down on the table and I had to hold him down for the first shot, so it didn't start out that well. Anyway, we got the shots done--thank-goodness. Sarah and Claire went with us to the doctor's office to help watch the girls. Claire told me that she saw Jack at recess and gave him a hug--what a sweet girl. Jack also saw Amy in the lunchroom. After the doctor's appointment, we all got ice cream to celebrate the first day of school and Jack's shots. Jack got a banana milkshake. After dropping the Fraziers at home, Amy came back to our house to play for an hour or so. Jack was tired tonight!

The other issue to address is how the day went for me...It hit me like a ton of bricks yesterday afternoon when I was buying his uniform shorts and shirts...he would be gone all day from 8am to 3pm...my baby boy. Sad how fast they grow up and then their time with you at home is gone. We have entered into a new phase and I have to get used to it. The house was QUIET this afternoon while the girls napped. But, his excitement and his face coming out of school today makes me feel better. He also made us a hand-print with a little poem telling us he is thinking about us while we are thinking about him. Oh, how I wish time would slow down just a tad.

Interesting that John and I went to this school at his age
