The Babies Turn Three!

Oh my! It is so hard for me to to believe. Three years ago I went to an OB visit which sent me to the hospital and these three little ladies made their appearance in the world by that afternoon. Our hearts are overfilled with love, they make us laugh each and every day and we are reminded of our blessings every time we look into their little faces.

The girls have come a long way--even in the the past year. Last year, they were two year-old babies that were just starting to speak, napping, using a pacifier, sleeping in cribs and in diapers. Today they are less like toddlers and more like preschoolers. Definately more independent, growing taller, speaking in sentences, potty-trained, sleeping in toddler beds, and we said good-bye to the pacifiers and sadly--the naps--much to my dismay on the latter.

They talk to each other, call each other by name, look out for each other ("Lizzie needs a piece of gum.") and play (and fight) together. They love barbies, dress-up, princesses, Doc McStuffins, Jack and the Neverland Pirates, Mickey Mouse Clubhouse, "pitty dresses," high heels, shoes in general (especially Kate), purses, coloring, painting, reading books, doll babies, strollers, going to the park or "cool" [pool], "fimming" [swimming], playing outside, 'finging" [swinging], playing with magna-tiles, playing with Jack, scooters, cozy coups, getting their nails painted, play food in their kitchen, or the boat game on the couch (they sit between the back of the couch and cushions). They just started playing hide-and-seek which is comical. One counts in one room and the others hide, or they all hide and chase each other. They also have been learning their middle names and will tell people their full name when asked. My favorite word they say by far is, "-ere," like "right -ere."

They eat very well. They still drink milk, love OJ and apple juice. Still eat most vegetables, chicken, pasta, and "rack-0-roni" is a favorite. But basically, they eat everything.

They get up early--sometimes 6--mostly between 6:30-7. The first thing they want to do is get dressed. I have their clothes laid out and they grab them and start dressing themselves. After breakfast, they find things to play with. Since their birthday, the Barbie house has been a big hit. This summer we kept busy at the park, pool, zoo and library. It seems we found something to do each day. Lunch is early--around 11-11:30. I try to get them to read with me for 20-30 minutes after lunch and we do a little down time and watch a little TV. They like to grab their blankets and pillows from their rooms and be covered up. They rarely fall asleep. I think Kate did once or twice this past summer. If we are driving around in the afternoon, Kate will always fall asleep, Elizabeth will most of the time and Anna rarely does--she is my one that doesn't seem to need as much sleep. In the late afternoon/evenings, we like to play outside with neighbors. Then we eat dinner around 5:30-6. After baths, we settle down again, go to the bathroom, brush teeth, say prayers and go to bed. They are much better with bedtime. John can walk into their room and just tell them to stay in bed and they do. They like me to lay on their floor until they fall asleep--which is usually very fast because they are so tired. Most nights they are asleep by 7 PM. They are usually pretty good about staying in their beds through the night, but we do have them get up crying every once in a while coming to our room. If they are sick, they will end up in our bed, otherwise, we try to walk them back to their own--however, it depends on how tired we are! At one point, I think all the girls were sick and John was out of town, so there wasn't much room in our bed!

Anna is still my most independent. She leads the others, thinks every toy is hers (no matter who is holding it), has the occasional bite to show the other two she means business and she is still the biggest. She will play by herself more than the other two (which I think is because the other two know she will bite, so they tend to play with each other more). She loves barbies and dolls. And coloring. She wants me to write her name all the time. Since turning their car seats a few months ago, they have all decided the middle seat--but they call it the front seat--is the best seat and once they know we are getting ready to leave, it is a rush to go to the bathroom and get their shoes on the fastest to get to that seat. Anna almost always wins.

Elizabeth probably picks up on things the quickest. She tends to learn like Jack did. It seems easy for her to understand things. She loves dress-up and most every day, she is in her yellow Belle skirt and top at some point. She also loves Barbies and nail polish. She is still the smallest by quite a bit. But, she is quick on her feet and is not left behind. She likes to sing to the Zac Brown CD and actually knows quite a bit of the songs (thanks to big brother).

Kate is my strong-willed child. She doesn't give up the fight easily and has on occasion, had to leave places (with one of us) because she can't quite get herself under control. She loves to climb, jump, run and do anything that requires expending energy. She play hard, but sleeps hard too. She likes to dress in the princess clothes or leotard almost every day at some point. She loves her lovie "wul-vie" the most, and also her Barbies.

They are good kids and fun to watch as they grow and learn. They have no idea what it means that they are triplets, although if you ask them they will tell you they are "tiplets." Still amazing to think about how far they have come and how fast time has gone since that afternoon three years ago. We are so thankful for their health. We are so blessed.
