Fire!

Yes, the back yard burned. The mower from the lawn service must have sparked and set our dry Bermuda grass on fire. It quickly spread across our back yard to our neighbors on either side of us. I was not home at the time, but thankfully Vicki was home with the girls. She called 911 and the fire department was there within minutes. Thankfully, we live about a half mile from the fire department. I quickly got Jack from school and made it home just after it was out.

We are just thankful no one was hurt. It was such a windy day the fire spread very quickly. At one point, Vicki decided to get the girls out of the house because she was worried about the house catching on fire. Kate and Elizabeth were sleeping and she had a hard time waking them up. Shortly thereafter, the fire trucks arrived and she saw the big hoses in the back yard and knew it would be okay so she let those two sleep through this commotion.

The grass, we have been told, since it is dormant will regrow and will be fine. The fence has a few black spots near the bottom, but no real damage. Our neighbor to the south lost their trampoline and dog house (thankfully no dog was in the house). Our neighbor to the north just has the black grass. Their chickens were not harmed. After all the excitement, Jack and Anna went to see the chickens. Vicki and I had some wine and beer! Nothing like going out with a bang the night before Vicki leaves for home...

Here is a ball I found in the yard
