These pictures are from inside the Vatican Museums. I have SO many pictures from today, even more than what I thought, so I'm going to split them up into a few different posts. The Vatican Museums are a complex of different pontifical museums and galleries that began under the patronage of the popes Clement XIV (1769-1774) and Pius VI (1775-1799). The Museums also include the Gallery of Tapestries, a collection of various 15th and 17th century tapestries and the Gallery of Maps, among many other things. They house an impressive collection of artwork collected by the church throughout the centuries and the collections include some of the most famous Renaissance masterpieces & sculptures from ancient Rome and Greece. The artwork we saw is truly among the best in the world. Our pictures don't do any of them justice.
